LOCAL HERO – PETER JAMES
The man in the gloves is crime fiction writer and fellow Brightonian, Peter James. The location is Exeter Street Hall, a beautiful Victorian red brick building that has been used by the Brighton community for over a hundred years.
What ties the two together is that Peter was in a boxing final there in 1962 when, at the age of 13 he knocked out a boy called ‘Basher’ Basley. I’m taking the photo because I, along with a team of very smart and talented people, have spent a year of my life on a mission to save it from falling into the hands of developers, as it is now up for sale. Peter has written his story to help highlight the campaign. Read it here.
